2018 FESTIVAL ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, MARTIN CHALIFOUR
Reno, NV (October 10, 2018) – Twenty of the finest classical musicians from around the world gather in Reno to perform at the fifteenth annual Nevada Chamber Music Festival, twelve concerts presented by the Reno Chamber Orchestra December 26, 2018 to January 1, 2019. This year, the Reno Chamber Orchestra welcomes Martin Chalifour as 2018 Artistic Director. Chalifour is Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and a Festival favorite for many years.
The Nevada Chamber Music Festival begins on December 26 with a special performance at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with local favorite The Great Basin Brass. On December 27th, the Festival will feature two very popular “Baroque by Candlelight” concerts at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. On January 1, the Festival concludes with a New Year’s Day celebration complete with champagne brunch at the Renaissance Reno Hotel and Viennese New Year’s Day finale at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral featuring Schubert’s Trout Quintet.
A total of 12 concerts take place over the 7 days. Concerts also take place at South Reno United Methodist Church and Nightingale Concert Hall on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
Among the acclaimed musicians featured in the Festival are:
* Mark Kosower (cello) – Principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra
* Jun-Ching Lin (violin) – Assistant Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
* Clive Greensmith (cello) – Formerly of the Tokyo String Quartet
* Che-Yen Chen (viola) – Founding member of the Formosa Quartet
* Reno Chamber Orchestra members Ruth Lenz, Dustin Budish, Scott Faulkner, and James Winn
along with other top local musicians Dmitri Atapine and Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio
Since its debut in 2004, the Nevada Chamber Music Festival has attracted increasingly large and enthusiastic audiences. One critic wrote that the “collection of exceptional musicians playing exceptional music brought forth a collection of stellar performances worthy of any of the world’s great centers of culture,” and referred to one concert as “electrifying and edifying listening.” The Festival has won international acclaim from publications such as The Strad, a prestigious British magazine for string instrument players.
