Welcome to the re-start of the RCO’s blog! It has actually lain dormant for several years now. But we’d like to bring it back now so that we can let you know more about RCO goings-on. We’ll share program notes and interviews and other special features. As we get our busy and exciting 2017-18 season started, we hope the blog will become a space for up-to-date information, and perhaps a little entertainment!

Of course, the opening concerts of the 2017-18 season are coming up this Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at UNR’s Nightingale Concert Hall. Pianist Tanya Bannister, who made such a positive impression at the 2016 Nevada Chamber Music Festival, will be coming back to Reno to perform Chopin’s beautiful, lyrical Piano Concerto No. 2 with Maestro Theodore Kuchar and the Orchestra. Along with Chopin, Maestro Kuchar and the RCO will perform a couple of other favorites from the classical repertoire, the Suite from Aaron Copland’s ballet Appalachian Spring and Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6. We decided to start the season with some ultra-familiar, ultra-entertaining music!

Tickets are still available for both concerts. Buy them online at the RCO website or call us at (775) 348-9413.

Later this week, we’ll be putting program notes for our three featured pieces here at the blog: Copland on Wednesday, Chopin on Thursday, and Beethoven on Friday.

As you probably already know, this season is an extra-special one, in that we will be saying a fond farewell to Maestro Kuchar, as he concludes his tenure as Reno Chamber Orchestra Music Director and Nevada Chamber Music Festival Artistic Director after fifteen wonderful, successful seasons. We’ll be celebrating his legacy throughout 2017-18, including our first “Dinner with the Maestro” of the season, happening right after the Sunday, October 8 concert at La Vecchia Italian Bistro. If you’d like to take part and enjoy some great food and lovely conversation with Maestro Kuchar and Tanya Bannister and other RCO fans, be sure to reserve your spot at the dinner in the next couple of days. Details are available at the RCO website.

When you come to this weekend’s concerts, you’ll also be among the first to see the complete lineup for the 2017 Nevada Chamber Music Festival. Details on all the programs and performers will be included in this weekend’s program, and will be available at the RCO website. It’s going to be another amazing week of music!
