Jana Bouskova, principal harpist of the Czech Philharmonic and named one of the Czech Republic’s ten most distinguished women, performs music by Ginastera and Debussy with Maestro Kuchar and the RCO. Rossini’s familiar Overture begins the concert, and Haydn’s lively “Military,” with its colorful extra percussion, concludes.
Harpist Jana Bouskova has become a regular guest of the world’s foremost concert platforms. Since 2005 she has held the post of principal harpist with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. She has served as a professor at the Prague Conservatoire, Brussels Royal Conservatory, and the Academy of Music in Prague. To her credit are over twenty CDs made for Czech and international labels. Among the prestigious awards she has received are the gold medal from the International Harp Competition in the U.S.A., and second prize from the International Harp Contest in Israel. As one of the Czech Republic’s ten most distinguished women, in 2004 she was the first classical music instrumentalist to receive the Lady Pro prize. Read more.
Theodore Kuchar
Theodore Kuchar, one of the most prolifically recorded conductors of the past decade, appears on over 100 compact discs for the Naxos, Brilliant Classics, Ondine and Marco Polo labels. For the past 17 years, he has served as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of two of Europe’s preeminent orchestras, the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He presently also serves as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Venezuela and the Fresno Philharmonic. An avid chamber musician, he served as the Artistic Director of The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (1990-2006), and has served as the Artistic Director of the Nevada Chamber Music Festival since 2005. Since 2004, he has served as Resident Conductor at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, the educational institution established by the late George Szell, in cooperation with The Cleveland Orchestra.
